It all starts with an idea
This is my first blog post in the history of my 7 year music career and 29 years of life. I’m not entirely sure where to begin so I figured I would share a few words of encouragement to anyone chasing their dreams or looking for a little bit of encouragement to start. The best advice I could give anyone is to believe in yourself and your craft, but always be honest with yourself and hold yourself accountable.
There is never a blue print that lays out the foundation on how you can achieve your dreams and accomplish your goals. What you find is that the journey is all trial and error. You might be lucky enough to have a mentor who can share their wisdom with you so that you can learn from their mistakes, but the reality is that you are going to fail. You are going to fail over and over and over again. There is no way around that simple truth. If you have a dream and a passion that you want to turn into a career you better learn fast to live with failure. As someone who is just barely scraping by to pay my bills through music I can tell you it is not easy. However, I can tell you that I love every second of it. I welcome all of the ups and downs because for the last three years I have made a living solely off of my music. That is a pretty cool sentence to write and I take tremendous pride in it. It is something I wish every musician can have and it is something I wish everyone pursing their passion can achieve too, no matter the profession.
When you are a kid they tell you to dream big and that you can be anything you want to be if you just put your mind to it. They tell you to dream big, but no one ever tells you how to achieve those dreams. The truth is that there is no one way to go about it. You have to follow your own journey. You have to be determined and believe in yourself to not give up. Everyone’s path is different. Always remember and remind yourself of that. Some have it much easier than others, but an easy way to give up on your dream is to compare yourself to others. It’s fine to study what other people are doing to learn from their success and growth, but comparing and contrasting your progress is a dream killer. Believe in your journey and the lessons you have to learn in life. Doors will open and close, but keep moving and appreciate ever single person currently in your life, who is about to be in your life, and who will fall out of your life. The dream is the journey and you have the power to take control of the narrative if you choose to.
Be kind to people and don’t forget to call the ones close to you and tell them you love them.
